Logan City held its first election on March 5, 1866. The elected mayor, Alvin Crockett, held his first meeting in a citizens home.

Since that time, Logan City government has come a long way. Currently, the Council-Mayor (1 mayor, 5 city council members) form of government is used in Logan - the first city in Utah to adopt this type of city government.

Cache County elected its first Sheriff in 1857. The primary mission of the sheriff has been to preserve the peace and to make all lawful arrests. The mission of the Cache County Sheriff's Office is to proved community protection, crime prevention, deputy safety and a well trained professional staff working cooperatively with the citizens we serve. Their values are: Respect, Fairness, Empathy, Responsibility, Trustworthiness and Professionalism. Bear River Association of Governments

(BRAG) is a cooperative effort that manages a variety of publicly funded programs for Cache, Rich and Box Elder counties. BRAG manages programs that provide services such as subsidized housing, emergency services, the food bank, day care, legal services, job training, information and financial assistance.

BRAG has an executive director and a governing board of tri-county elected officials.
