Cache Valley?s beauty and recreation are in abundance throughout the winter months. You will enjoy your snow-filled days by skiing through the fresh powder at Beaver Mountain Ski Resort, or snowmobiling through the Valley?s canyons. Weather you are hiking, ice fishing or elk watching, you will be able to find something for everyone in the valley during this season.

Fishing

Looking for a good fishing story? Anglers can access some of the best fishing in the Rockies within minutes of downtown Logan. Blacksmith Fork River, Logan River and Bear Lake are three of the most popular fishing places Looking for trout? Then head up
to Tony Grove Lake which is stocked with beautiful rainbows. If bigger Lake Trout or Cutthroat are your style then head up to Bear Lake. It's said that the largest fish caught up Logan Canyon was a 40 pounder!

Wildlife Watching

You don?t want to miss out on an opportunity to see Elk, moose and deer throughout the mid-section in Logan Canyon. Beaver dams are often found along the Logan River. Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area, located 17 miles east of Hyrum, has over 600 elk which make the ranch their winter home. Sleigh rides are available December-March.

Hardware Ranch Elk Refuge
15 miles east of Hyrum, on US Hwy 101 in Blacksmith Fork Canyon. Each year more than 600 Rocky Mountain elk make the ranch home for the winter. Take a horse-drawn sleigh ride and learn about these magnificent creatures. On Friday and Saturday evenings, enjoy a moonlit sleigh ride and dinner.

Logan Canyon Scenic Byway
U.S. Highway 89 showcases beautiful Logan Canyon. Mile-high vertical limestone cliffs can be seen from this popular roadway. As you travel through this gentle canyon route, you will see forested canopies, the winding Logan River and mountain wildlife. Many camping, picnicking and fishing areas are located throughout the canyon. A seven-mile drive off the highway leads you to spectacular Tony Grove Lake. A short, level trail takes you around the lake to view the many wildflowers in this area. This canyon is a popular winter paradise, with more than 300 miles of groomed snowmobile trails. Beaver Mountain Ski Resort is located on the route just 27 miles northeast of Logan.

Snowmobiling

The 300 miles of groomed trails make Cache Valley on of America?s favorite snowmobiling playgrounds. These scenic trails will wind you through picturesque landscapes filled with waterfalls, limestone cliffs and snow filled forest ranges.

The various terrains offer snowmobiling fun for all ability levels. The Bridgerland snowmobile complex includes, Logan Canyon, Monte Cristo, Hardware Ranch and Wasatch-Cache National Forest. Furthermore, some of the trails extend into Caribou National Forest in Idaho.

Logan Canyon, on average, receives over 400 inches of annual snowfall. The season usually begins in November and lasts until April or May.

Skiing

Logan Canyon, Sherwood Hills and Green Canyon offer winter hiking and cross-country skiing, with routes that cover any experience level. Along these trails, don?t be surprised to see moose, elk, deer, cottontails, ermine, porcupines, snowshoe hare and a variety of birds.

The Sink Hollows, at the entrance of Beaver Mountain Ski Resort, offer two beginner areas which overlook Bear Lake near the summit of Logan Canyon. Green Canyon offers groomed track for good skiing just minutes from Logan.

Hiking

The trails never end here in Cache Valley. The interwoven network of scenic trails will take you on picturesque hikes for all ages. You may be looking for a three hour hike to the top of the Wellsville Mountains or a short hike up to the Wind Caves to
